How I Inspire Myself Each Morning

I am a great believer in a martial saying that I learned from my Sensei a few decades ago. It says to have our eyes high, while we walk on the ground. Eyes high is our lofty goal, walking on the ground, means to be firmly where we are NOW, and move by our own feet towards that goal.

Although I have never yet, in over 4 decades of training achieved the following phrases affirmation, it is my lofty goal, and I read it aloud each morning to begin my day. You may like it and adapt it to yourself as well.

Adapted from Baltasar Gracian:

"LET ME THEREFORE BE SO MUCH AND SO GREAT A MASTER OVER MYSELF THAT NEITHER IN THE MOST FORTUNATE NOR IN THE MOST ADVERSE CIRCUMSTANCES CAN ANYTHING CAUSE MY REPUTATION INJURY BY DISTURBING MY SELF-POSSESSION, BUT RATHER ENHANCE IT BY SHOWING MY SUPERIORITY"

If I ever truly achieve that, I will most certainly be a true master. Sensei Grant, Founder of Applied Samurai Wisdom
